VDH Builds for the Future in Ridderkerk

10 March 2025

VDH is investing in the future with the construction of a new, modern company building in Ridderkerk. This building brings together various locations and offers space for growth, efficiency, and sustainability. Johan Nagtegaal, responsible for construction supervision, shares the plans and progress of the project.

Smart Location, Better Service

With the new construction in Ridderkerk, VDH combines the strengths of three branches: Moerdijk Tradeboulevard, Hazeldonk, and the current building in Ridderkerk. Johan says: "This merger makes logistics processes more efficient and enables us to serve customers faster and better, especially in the area of refrigerated fruit logistics and repacking activities."

"The building will have a large repackaging department on the top floor and two office levels. The first level is for VDH, and the second is available for clients who want to rent office space."

Sustainable Construction

Sustainability is an important focal point in this project. The building will be equipped with solar panels, electric charging stations, and circular building materials will be used. "Contractor Fraanje plays a significant role in this and ensures that VDH operates future-proof. We are also working towards the BREEAM Sustainability Certification," says Johan. "With these choices, we not only reduce our ecological footprint but also show that logistics and sustainability go hand in hand."

A Great Workplace for Everyone

"A modern work environment means more than just an efficient warehouse. At VDH, we also invest in the well-being of colleagues. That's why the new building will have a gym and relaxation areas with, among other things, a dartboard and table football. We want colleagues to enjoy working here. Little things make a big difference. This contributes to job satisfaction and engagement."

Planning and Delivery

After 2.5 years of preparation, construction started in October 2024. A third of the steel structure is now complete, and work is being done on the offices and installations. The completion is scheduled for the end of 2025, followed by the move in January and February 2026. From that moment, the building will be operational.

Johan: "With this new building, VDH takes a big step towards the future. A modern, sustainable, and innovative building where colleagues and clients feel at home and where we elevate our service to an even higher level."
